That\u2019s why fraudulent telemarketers ask people to pay with systems that deliver a quick, anonymous cash payout like cash-to-cash transfers or cash reload card PINs. However, it\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ftc.gov\/news-events\/press-releases\/2016\/06\/ftc-alerts-telemarketers-tsr-prohibits-certain-payment-methods\">now <strong>illegal<\/strong><\/a> for telemarketers to ask for payment by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>cash-to-cash money transfers \u2014 like those from MoneyGram and Western Union<\/li>\n<li>PINs from cash reload cards like MoneyPak and Vanilla Reload<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The FTC amended the Telemarketing Sales Rule (TSR) to ban these practices starting June 13, 2016. If a telemarketer asks you to use one of these payment methods, he\u2019s breaking the law.<\/p>\n<p>The amended Rule also bans telemarketers from calling to ask for your bank account information and using it to create a \u2018remotely created check\u2019 that you never see, or sign. If a telemarketer you haven\u2019t done business with calls to ask for your bank account number for any purpose, say \u2018No\u2019 and hang up.<\/p>\n<p>You have other protections under the Rule, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>limits on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.consumer.ftc.gov\/articles\/0198-telemarketing-sales-rule\">when telemarketers can call<\/a>\u00a0and what they must tell you<\/li>\n<li>limits on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.consumer.ftc.gov\/articles\/0198-telemarketing-sales-rule\">\u201chang-up\u201d calls<\/a>\u00a0and rules about transmitting caller ID<\/li>\n<li>limits on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.consumer.ftc.gov\/articles\/0259-robocalls\">robocalls<\/a><\/li>\n<li>the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/donotcall.gov\/\">National Do Not Call Registry<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you hear from telemarketers who don\u2019t follow the rules, hang up and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ftc.gov\/complaint\">report them to the FTC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Original article can be found here:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.consumer.ftc.gov\/blog\/new-limits-telemarketers?utm_source=BBB+News+FTC+regs+for+telemarketers&amp;utm_campaign=Telemarketer+Reg+Changes&amp;utm_medium=email\">New limits on telemarketers<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New limits on telemarketers June 27, 2016 by Bridget Small Consumer Education Specialist, FTC Scammers want your money, but they don\u2019t want to get caught taking it.
